Supporting community activities that incorporate preventive health screenings is another way that we are making a difference in the health of Oklahomans. BCBSOK members benefit from free or reduced admission to our sponsored health fairs. In 2013, preventive health activities included the Bart and Nadia Sports and Health Festival, the Fox 25 Health and Wellness Expo, Tulsa Pulse, and the Williams Route 66 Marathon presented by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK).
Employees set a good example for their friends and families, as well as the community, by participating in workplace wellness activities such as National Walk @ Lunch Day, the Oklahoma City Riversport Corporate Rowing League, the OU College of Medicine Corporate Challenge and the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma Corporate Challenge tied to the Williams Route 66 Marathon.
BCBSOK also focuses on special projects that encourage our youngest citizens to start healthy living at an early age. This includes the annual Be Smart-Don’t Start Anti-Tobacco Contest, the Time Out for Fitness partnership with the WNBA Tulsa Shock team, KaBOOM! playground builds, and Tulsa YMCA’s Kids 5K Training Program.
