Every Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Oklahoma (BCBSOK) employee is a member of Blue Corps, an internal program charged with making a positive impact on the community through volunteer events, fund and material drives, and individual engagement in the community.
Every year, Blue Corps groups in Tulsa and Oklahoma City organize projects such as coat drives for adopted schools, care packages for active military with Blue Star Mothers, and adopting seniors during the holidays. They also engage in team volunteer days for area nonprofits. In 2013, groups in Tulsa and Oklahoma City volunteered time at their local community food banks helping to organize bags of food for those in need, and they also helped prepare space for a community garden.
In addition, many employees donate their personal time to organizations with which they have a special connection. Employees donated more than 5,400 hours to 83 organizations in 2013, an increase of more than 46 percent over the previous year.
Blue Corps members represent BCBSOK at community events, such as the OU Corporate Challenge in Oklahoma City and the Martin Luther King, Jr. Parade in Tulsa.
